A hot cup of tea a day may keep glaucoma away!

First off, what exactly is glaucoma and how can you possibly end up in a situation where you need to worry about it? Glaucoma is a disease that causes damage to your optic nerve via fluid build up in the front part of your eye. When the extra fluid increases the pressure in your eyeball, it slowly but surely causes damage to the optic nerve. There are two types of glaucoma: Primary Open-Angle Glaucoma shows almost no drastic changes at first; and Angle-Closure Glaucoma that can show quite a few signs of a Glaucoma attack, such as sudden blurry vision or stomach pains and nausea.

New findings show that a few changes in your lifestyle may help prevent vision loss from glaucoma. According to the 2005-2006 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, researchers looked at the health and diet of people in the United States. The study for that particular year was associated with people that received eye tests for glaucoma. Researchers were interested at how frequently the respondents said they had consumed coffee, tea or soft drinks during the past 12 months. They found that coffee lovers outnumbered fans of hot tea, but only a daily cup of caffeinated hot tea was tied to a lower risk of glaucoma.

Hot tea has been associated with a healthier lifestyle and fewer health risks. At the very least, it’s a flavorful way of getting enough fluid into your body each day. On top of that, studies have shown teas can help with weight loss, getting a good dose of antioxidants, your heart health, as well as possibly even helping to stave off cancer.

Because tea contains phytochemicals and flavonoids that have anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, it is a popular choice when considering healthy drinks. Replacing a caffeinated beverages like soda or coffee loaded up with creams and sugars can change your body’s metabolism and functions.

There are many benefits from drinking hot tea and introducing it into your diet, besides keeping your immune system boosted and your vision clear. Whether it’s more energy, bone strength or a lesser chance of getting glaucoma — hot tea was made for more than just warming you up!
