Corneal Topography

Corneal topography is painless and non-invasive. The test is also used when attempting to fit difficult contact lenses.

What is involved in Corneal Topography?

At Tri-County Eye Clinic we have the latest technology in Corneal Topography

The cornea is the clear tissue that is continuous with the sclera (white portion of the eye) and lies in front of the iris (the colored tissue) and the pupil (black hole in the middle of the iris) and is moistened by the tears and cleaned by the blinking of the eye lids.

Light shines through the cornea, through the pupil and the lens, and an image is delivered to the back of the eye. The topography is a mapping of the surface of the cornea. Everyone's cornea has a unique shape. Some have hills, and odd shapes that refract light causing double vision or distorted vision.

At tri County Eye Clinic we have a Nidek OPD Scanner, representing the latest technology to map the cornea of each eye of each patient. this new wave front technology is in the process of being coordinated so that surgical procedures such as LASIK can be performed to a greater degree of accuracy.

Corneal topography is painless and non-invasive. The test is also used when attempting to fit difficult contact lenses.
